Tuesday Oct 13th – Hillmorton to Ansty
Clive popped his head out of the hatch this morning and immediately came back inside to fetch the camera. It was absolutely beautiful outside, the sun was coming over the hill but it was all misty – he couldn’t resist taking some photos.

Sunday October 11th – Long Buckby to Braunston
We left Buckby Wharf after breakfast and almost immediately arrived at Norton Junction (we have been here several times before!) and this time we turned left. It was a bit overcast but at least it wasn’t raining! It wasn’t long before we reached Braunston Tunnel. Once again we were amazed how many narrowboats were out and about, having seen so few for the last three months whilst we were in Ea...

Friday Oct 9th – Northampton to Weedon
We were delighted to see that the weather was good when we woke up in the morning – what a relief! We had a long day ahead of us and rain could have put a real damper on it, so to speak! We left our mooring at about 8.45 and headed off to start the long haul up the 17 locks of the Rothersthorpe flight! Actually in a perverse sort of way I was quite looking forward to it. I have actually missed the ...

Thursday 8th – Cogenhoe to Northampton
Poking my nose outside just after 7.00am, I saw the year’s first thin frost clinging to the hollows in the field next to us. It was cool last night and it certainly left its mark. The creamy coloured cows who occupy the huge flood plain here had just decided to scamper by, thinking that the guy standing at the Lock was the farmer come to feed them; they all set of, as on amission, one behind the other, almost galloping acro...

Tuesday Oct 6th – Wadenhoe to Irthlingborough
We had a lovely meal in the King’s Head last night anda wee drinky poo then back to the boat to settle down for the night.
We didn’t wake early this morning but when we did we could hear the rain pounding on the roof – oh no! However we managed to set off at around 9.45am, all togged up in our waterproofs. As it happened though the rain eased off after a while and it w...

Sunday Oct 4th – Wansford to Fotheringhay
We left Wansford Station bright and early this morning, at around 8.15am. It was a beautiful morning, in total contrast to yesterday! However Autumn is most definitely in the air, we both needed to wrap up against the chill!
We had a really pleasant cruise and even saw a couple of kingfishers in flight but unfortunately didn’t manage to get any decent photographs.

Thursday October 1st – March to Overton Lake
Can you believe its October already!
We left March bright and early this morning and had a pretty uneventful cruise really. The most exciting bit of the journey was negotiating the right-angled bend as we were leaving Whittlesea! Just as we were coming through the village we met another narrowboat coming the other way and her captain shouted across that there was another boat not far behind hi...

Following on from yesterday's blog, we arrived at Denver Sluice in good time and had a couple of hours to wait before our passage through the lock. However at around 3.00pm the lock keeper wandered over to tell us that it might be a bit later as the tide was being very slow. In fact he said last night it was an hour late!

Well, what a weekend!
After spending a pleasant day in Ely on Friday, which included a visit from Gareth and Indy during the afternoon, Vicki and Ben arrived around 5.00pm and we headed off to Cambridge with them to collect the removal van. Once we had the van we had to go to Ben’s house to pick up a bed settee, then to Tesco’s to buy a washing machine, then over to Gareth’s to collect Vicki’s dining table and chairs! With the van l...

Tuesday Sept 22nd - Stretham
It was bright and sunny when we awoke this morning. What a relief, it would be no fun whatsoever trying to fit solar panels and do all the wiring if it was pouring with rain!
Clive couldn’t wait to get started but I persuaded him to have a cup of tea and a jam sandwich before he embarked on the big installation! He had it all planned out and knew exactly what he was going to do. He started by laying ...
