We have now been in New Zealand for two weeks! We have been very lazy really, just enjoying relaxing at Lindsey's and not really doing a great deal. Well when all said and done, we have plenty of time! We were just discussing this very thing yesterday and agreed that at the moment we are just "living" here, as we do at home on the boat, its just a change of scenery and its nice and warm. However early in the New Year we will be "going on holiday" when we set off in the campe...

Well I can hardly believe we have been here a whole week! We have been watching the news and hearing bulletins from home in the UK and know just how lucky we are to be here in warm and sunny New Zealand whilst the UK is experiencing the earliest widespread snow and plummeting temperatures for many, many years! We have certainly had a "narrow" escape!
So, what have we been up to then? Well, not a great deal really. We have been relaxing quite a lot in order to gently e...

Having got Lady Arwen safely in her berth at the Fish and Duck Marina yesterday, we were almost ready for off. All the cases and the hand luggage were packed with everything but the galley sink and all that remained was to prepare the boat ready to be left unoccupied for the duration of the winter. First of all we had to drain all the water out of the holding tank and the hot water tank. This took an awfully long time! We had purposefully not filled the tank a few days ago, we ju...

WE'RE FAMOUS!
We have actually appeared on TV!
Earlier in the year when we were leaving Birmingham, a guy started filming us as we were just starting up a lock flight. When he had finished filming I asked him what it was for and he told us that the BBC were making a documentary about James Brindley the famous architect of the Midlands canal system. I believe this was mentioned in our blog at the time. We had almost forgotten about it until toda...

Hi everbody! It has been two months since the blog was last updated (in case you hadn't noticed!). There really hasn't been a lot to talk about that we thought you would be interested in so decided to give it a break for a while. The last couple of months have been taken up with sorting out our house after our tenants left, getting it ready for new tenants to move in, which unfortunately to date hasn't happened! However we have another agency on the case now and sincer...

Yes its hard to believe but two years ago today we embarked on our adventure aboard NB Lady Arwen! We had let our house and put all our worldly goods in a storage facility and moved on board the night before and then, with a great send-off from our very good friends Barry and Shirley Collings, we left Whilton Marina on our maiden voyage!
Our first destination was Huddersfield in West Yorkshire, the place where we were both born and bred and where both our children, Vi...

I know its been ages since the last blog and you will note that we are moored at Clayhithe once again! We have actually moved since the last blog, we have been down to Cambridge and up to Ely and backwards and forwards between Clayhithe and Cambridge. However apart from lots of family busines we haven't really done a lot worth reporting! We did manage to meet up with one of my Burwell friends, Helen Grainger, in Ely and spent a lovely afternoon with her, other than that there isn'...

Well, we have had quite a busy time since the last blog! We've been up and down the River Cam like a fiddler's elbow! Had lots of visitors and been out and about eating, drinking and being generally merry - with one exception!
So where to start? Well, I think August 4th would be best, it was a memorable day - our granddaughter Indeia's fifth birthday! We had arranged to meet Gareth and Indy in Cottenham for a special event but how to get there? Gareth...

I realise I am now in deep doo doo with all our regular blogees for not having posted anything on the blog for almost a month! Sincere apologies! One of the reasons has been that as we have been retracing our steps I didn't want to bore our reader by repeating everything we saw and did last year. Also, we have been spending a lot of time with family and friends, which again I thought might be boring to other people. However several of you have been nagging us for another blog so I...

Unfortunately we never got to meet up with Dave Jolly at Cogenhoe. I spoke to him on the phone earlier and he was going to try and pop over to the boat to see us but he never made it. However I have to say, it was extremely short notice when I rang him up! Oh well never mind, perhaps the next time we pass through Cogenhoe we can give him more notice!
The following day, Tuesday June 29th, we headed off once more. The first thing was Cogenhoe Lock, righ...
