On the evenging of Tuesday June 22nd Barrie, Kathy and Henry the black labrador turned up as arranged and we all trooped over to The Great Western Arms again!  We had yet another lovely meal there and it was great catching up with old friends again.  After the meal we parted company but arranged to meet up with Barrie again in Banbury in a couple of days time as Clive was getting some tyres from him for the TR6.

The following morning we left Aynho Wharf afte...

June 22nd 2010 - Aynho Wharf

We stayed in Thrupp for two days, mainly because we had a reasonable TV signal and Clive wanted to watch the England v Algeria match on Friday!  That was a total waste of time wasn't it!!!

On Saturday we left Thrupp but didn't intend going too far.  We cruised for about three hours and encountered several locks and lift bridges.  Finally we came up through Dashwood Lock and there was a really lovely bit of mooring immediately afterwards so we stopped there....

Well I know its been a while since the last blog but oh boy have we had a lovely time!

We stayed in Oxford for two or three days, mainly to sit out the rain, which was quite heavy at times.  Finally the rain passed over and left everything looking newly washed and clean!

I know, I know! You have been wondering where on Earth we are and what we have been doing - sorry, just been too busy relaxing and enjoying ourselves to do a blog!

Well, where were we! Ah yes Stuart and David duly arrived around 2ish and we set off and went for a cruise.  It was a lovely afternoon and we had a very enjoyable cruise.  We went up to and through Boveney Lock and up as far as Dorney Lake then we turned round and cruised back to Windsor where we moored ...

Ali, Mike and Harry finally arrived after a two hour drive that should only have taken one!

It was lovely to have little Harry on board, he was into everything, investigating every switch and button and pressing them all just to see what they did.  We nearly ended up with the central heating on!!  He was however a wee bit tire...

Sorry for the delay in blogging, we've just been too busy enjoying ourselves!  To cut a long story short, we wended our way down the Grand Union from Rickmansworth to Cowley Lock and moored up for the night.  We were extremely close to a pub so decided to pop up for a swift one dinner.  The following day we carried on down through lots more locks to Brentford and finally got there mid afternoon on the Thursday.  I have to say I was very relieved to shut the doors on the la...

Tuesday May 11th - We had a lovely evening on board Chelsea with Riki and Clive (the other one!) and not forgetting Harriet the ship's cat!  We arrived on board at 7.00pm and were immediately given a glass of wine then Clive gave us the guided tour of the boat.  Its amazing really, considering most narrowboats have the same approximate space on board, how differently they are all laid out inside.  Chelsea had everything Lady Arwen has; bedroom, bathroom, galley, dinette and sal...

Well here we are five days on and we still don't know who the Prime Minister is going to be!  What a shambles!!!  We managed to stay up until 3.30am by which time we were no wiser than we had been when they informed us of the exit polls!  So we went to bed expecting to wake up to the news that we had a new government - no such luck!  Anyway, enough of politics - its got boring now!

We did have a bit of a lie in the next morning and then we finally set off...

Thursday May 6th - POLLING DAY

Posted by clivenmel on May 6, 2010 at 10:21 AM

The trouble with not doing a blog every day now is that I can't always remember what has happened over the last few days!!!  Now, let me think????

Not long after we set off on Friday we arrived at the Blisworth Tunnel.  This is actually the third longest navigable tunnel after Standedge up in Huddersfield as it is 3076 yards long (just under two miles).  It was reasonably dry most of the way but I had the umbrella at the ready for when we passed under the ven...

Friday April 30th 2010 - Bugbrooke

Monday April 26th - continued:  I managed to get my laundry washed and dried - clean bedding, bliss!  After lunch Clive walked up to the top of the flight to find the lock keeper to see when we could go up, fortunately there was nobody coming down and nobody waiting to go up so we were next - excellent!  We made short work of the flight, accompanied by loads of Gongoozlers, one or two of whom gave us a hand with the gates, which is always welcome, then we were off, finally....
